Our Most Beloved Pieces

Since 1983, Santoleri has been reproducing lithographs of his original artwork on high-quality fine art paper. Around the turn of the 21st century, Santoleri adopted the modern digital process called Giclée, which allows a much closer color representation to the original artwork. For the past ten years, Nick has been using pigmented inks, allowing for superior color accuracy as well as fade resistance. Santoleri’s earlier work was reproduced using offset printing. We offer limited edition prints, open edition prints, and art note cards.

Artist Statement

“As a child, the pencil was my earliest medium. At my grandparent’s house, I remember they had tablets without lines. My grandmother would sit me down with a few sharp pencils and a couple of blank pages and for a few hours, my ADD was under control. I became mesmerized, drawing everything from the cat to the tea kettle. Because the pencil is a medium of memory; a vehicle that can take me from a pencil sketch on a paper plate to a master drawing on high-quality Bristol.” -Nicholas Santoleri

The Art Spirit

The art spirit moves through me, pregnant with the next idea she has to offer up to me. I go into an artistic trance-like riding a wave. I strive to transcend the medium in which I’m working.

Artistic INFLUENCES

My artistic influences include Albrecht Durer, John Singer Sargent and especially, Andrew Wyeth. Wyeth’s artistic philosophy, that artists are merely a medium for a higher artistic spirit, mirrors my own.

Art as Meditation

Art is my meditation and therapy. Some other artists look at my paintings and say they’d go crazy doing that much detail, but I get lost in the intricacies of my work.

Glossary of Art Terms

Understanding art terminology is crucial when ordering a commission. It helps clarify technical terms, ensuring clear communication between the artist and client. From discussing mediums and styles to understanding terms like "giclée print" or "open edition print," an art glossary ensures both parties are on the same page, leading to a smoother and more satisfying collaboration.

Framing Your Art

While most of Nick’s art needs to be custom framed, some art can be more economically framed. Recently Nick created a series of prints that are designed to fit in a standard size matting and standard size framing. Therefore they do not need to be custom framed.   How to economically mat and frame these prints: These prints fit in a mat with an 11″ x 14″ opening and a 16″ x 20″ outside dimension (both vertical and horizontal print). These mats and frames can be purchased at a fraction of the cost of custom framing.

The Artistic Process

Nick’s creative process usually begins with nothing more than an idea and a pencil. As he drives over the winding, rural roads of Chester County, Nick is moved by the architectural and natural beauty of his surroundings, often pulling onto the shoulder to grab his camera or his sketchpad. These early sketches capture mood as well as physical dimension—the time of day, the aspect of the sun, the amount of cloud cover, and the resulting saturation of color—all contribute to his artistic vision.
